A Crash-Course in Instagram Location Tags
Using Instagram is a great way to promote your restaurant and help customers find you online. One of the many features that Instagram offers is location tags. When someone uses a location tag, other users can tap on and engage with that location. Today we’re discussing how to set up your restaurant’s location tag, and the best way you can utilize location tags on Instagram.
Setting Up Your Location Tag
This can be a little tricky, because even with a business account, you can’t just create new location tags on Instagram. Because Facebook and Instagram are owned by the same company, the two interface together. As a result, Instagram encourages businesses to link their Instagram page with their Facebook page to unlock additional features and buttons on their instagram profile. To create a new location tag, you first need to link your Instagram and Facebook business pages via settings. If your restaurant doesn’t already have a location tag through the Facebook mapping system, you’ll need to start in the Facebook app.
Open Facebook and hit “Check-In”. Use location services or type in the name of your restaurant. If the location doesn’t come up, hit the + button at the bottom of the page. You will be prompted with “Can’t find what you’re looking for?” and a list of categories for your location. Once you complete the creation of your location, you should be able to find it on Instagram as well.
Locations to Use
When tagging your location on Instagram posts, you will need to think strategically about your community and who you are reaching. The goal of using locations tags is to help potential new customers find your restaurant. In your posts, you should alternate tagging between your restaurant’s location and your city for the maximum amount of reach.
It’s a well known fact that nowadays, people are using Instagram to help them plan travel. One of the first places travel planning users will look is at location pages on Instagram. If your restaurant is in a city a user is searching for, but not on the city’s location tag, you’re missing an opportunity. Tagging your city over your restaurant on occasion allows you to be discoverable to tourists and locals alike browsing locations.
By tagging your own location, you’ll share the best imagery that you have with people interested in visiting your restaurant. Users will find the location page of your restaurant through both your posts, and the posts of your guests. When your guests post and tag your location, anyone who follows them will be able to tap and see more information about your restaurant.
